Implementation of genomic selection in public-sector plant breeding programs: Current status and opportunities
نویسندگان
چکیده
The usefulness of genomic selection (GS) for improvement complex traits has been demonstrated in plant and animal breeding. While fully adopted the livestock sector commercial breeding, implementation GS public-sector breeding programs lags. goal this review is to discuss advancements opportunities near-term long-term adoption programs. We also highlighted specific applications cultivar development ordered by what we believe be their feasibility, where feasibility defined cost, disruption current practices, risk.

Plant Tissue Culture: Current Status and Opportunities
Tissue culture is the in vitro aseptic culture of cells, tissues, organs or whole plant under controlled nutritional and environmental conditions [1] often to produce the clones of plants. The resultant clones are true-to type of the selected genotype. The controlled conditions provide the culture an environment conducive for their growth and multiplication. These conditions include proper supp...

Cowpea is one of the most important grain legumes in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). It provides strong support to the livelihood of small-scale farmers through its contributions to their nutritional security, income generation and soil fertility enhancement. Worldwide about 6.5 million metric tons of cowpea are produced annually on about 14.5 million hectares. The low productivity of cowpea is attri...
متن کاملGenomic Tools in Pea Breeding Programs: Status and Perspectives
Pea (Pisum sativum L.) is an annual cool-season legume and one of the oldest domesticated crops. Dry pea seeds contain 22-25% protein, complex starch and fiber constituents, and a rich array of vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals which make them a valuable source for human consumption and livestock feed. Dry pea ranks third to common bean and chickpea as the most widely grown pulse in the wo...
متن کاملOptimization of Swine Breeding Programs Using Genomic Selection with ZPLAN.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the present conventional selection program of a swine nucleus farm and compare it with a new selection strategy employing genomic enhanced breeding value (GEBV) as the selection criteria. The ZPLAN+ software was employed to calculate and compare the genetic gain, total cost, return and profit of each selection strategy. The first strategy reflected th...
